With only one month separating Michael Godwin’s first day on the job as head coach of the Plano East boys basketball team and the start of the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Showcase, Godwin wanted to keep things simple.
Godwin implemented only a couple of minor schematic changes, but the biggest thing that he told his players as they prepared for the Showcase was to play hard and play hard for each other.
The Panthers did both at the June 27-28 event in Cedar Hill and Duncanville, and they turned that into a 3-0 record – earning wins over DeSoto Kingdom Collegiate (62-58), Spring Dekaney (43-26) and Baytown Sterling (54-47).
“We just played good Plano East team basketball over the weekend,” Godwin said.
