After nearly nine years of planning, fundraising and frustration, the Murphy Veterans Tribute (MVT) has been dedicated at the City Hall Complex.
“This Tribute will become exactly what it was meant to be — a place where stories, sacrifice and gratitude can live together for the future,” Mary Pat Elledge, MVT board president, said at the Wednesday, May 27, dedication, which was moved into the council chambers because of torrential rains.
Groundbreaking was held Feb. 9 on the grassy boulevard island farthest east from the flagpoles. The location replaces a wooded area next to the amphitheater in Murphy Central Park that had been designated by the city in August 2017.
