The Murphy Police Department has won council approval to continue the use of license plate readers to fight crime in the city.
Councilmembers voted unanimously at the Tuesday, May 5, meeting to seek a state grant for Fiscal Year 2027 to fund the Flock Safety cameras currently in use.

“This grant would provide 80% of the cost of implementation and operation,” Gibson said, with $3,000 funded through the police departments Special Investigative Fund.
