You could smell the Backyard BBQ competition long before you could see the 10 smokers lined up in the parking lot and the white pavilions on the hill overlooking Murphy Central Park.
Overnight thunderstorms threatened the cookoff when chefs began smoking Friday afternoon, but the weather was just cloudy and perfect for the second annual event held Saturday, April 25.
Three judges on the amphitheater stage tasted the various submissions, voicing their concerns or accolades.
“That’s a good brisket,” said Mayor Scott Bradley, one of the judges. “I always ask for a moist cut and that’s what they brought me. It has beautiful texture.”
