In a divided ruling, the 5th U.S. Court of Appeals has upheld Texas Senate Bill 10 requiring all public schools to display the Ten Commandments in classrooms.
In reversing a lower court ruling the appeals court concluded the law, passed last year by the Legislature, does not violate the Establishment or Free Exercise clauses of the First Amendment of the Constitution.
89th District Rep. Candy Noble, R-Lucas, who carried the bill in the Texas House, said the appeals court affirmed the historical relevance of the Ten Commandments in the country’s educational and judicial history.
