Plano East won two games last week against McKinney to remain in playoff contention, winning the first game 4-2 and the second game 15-5, then earned a dominant 12-3 non-district victory over Bryan Adams on Senior Day on Saturday afternoon.
A throwing error put Bryan Adams ahead in the top of the first, but the remainder of the game was all Plano East.
The Panthers took the lead for good after a two-run double by Hunter Azuma. The biggest hit of the game for Plano East was a two-run, inside-the-park home run by Landon Weeks in the bottom of the second. The lead grew to 8-1 after an Azuma RBI single.
Andrew Valdez, Chandler Israel and Ty Tran combined to allow one earned run with six strikeouts.
In softball, Plano East concluded its season Friday with a hard-fought 2-1 loss to Allen.
Savannah Leonard limited a potent Lady Eagles offense to two runs (none earned) on three hits with three strikeouts, but the Lady Panthers came up just short in a 2-1 loss.
Allen took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.
Plano East tied the score at 1-1 on an RBI single by Emerson Bailey in the top of the sixth.
Allen regained a one-run lead with the help of an error and a subsequent RBI groundout in the bottom of the sixth.
The Lady Panthers (7-9 in district) put the tying run on base in the top of the seventh when Avery Hopper was hit by a pitch. However, that momentum quickly stalled as a double play cleared the bases, and Allen clinched the win moments later.
