Plano East’s baseball team (4-5 in District 6-6A) is 1.5 games behind fourth-place McKinney Boyd (5-3) and looking to end a three-game losing streak.

After scoring eight runs during a recent two-game series against Boyd, Plano East was unable to manufacture a run in a 6-0 loss to Prosper Rock Hill Thursday despite posting six hits, including a double by Ricky Clemens.

Anthony Gonzalez singled up the middle in the bottom of the first inning to give the Blue Hawks a 1-0 lead.

Plano East threatened in the top of the second. Clemens led off with a double but got no further than third base. Rock Hill pitcher Cole Carrell worked around Clemens’ double and held Plano East without a run. Carrell induced three straight outs to end the threat, including a strikeout to end the inning.

Landon Weeks and Xavien Salas each collected two hits for the Panthers.

Plano East will play crosstown rival Plano on Friday and Saturday. Friday’s game is slated for a 7:30 p.m. start at Rowlett High School.

In softball, Plano East racked up 10 hits and three runs, but a five-run top of the first by McKinney Boyd proved too much for the Lady Panthers to overcome in a 14-3 home loss.

Plano East’s first run came courtesy of an RBI single by Gina Martin in the third. However, that hit only reduced the Lady Panthers’ deficit to 12-1. Emerson Bailey drove in two runs for Plano East with an RBI double in the fourth inning.

Bailey accounted for two of Plano East’s 10 hits.

McKinney Boyd finished with six extra-base hits, including two home runs.

Plano East is back in action Friday night at Plano, with first pitch set for 7:15 p.m.
