Wylie ISD board reviews programs, approves bus plan

by | Apr 2, 2026 | Area News, Education, Latest

More than a month after an incident at Wylie East High School sparked public outcry, roughly 20 speakers returned to the Wylie ISD Board of Trustees meeting Tuesday, March 24, as district leaders continued addressing routine business.

During the public forum, speakers revisited concerns tied to the Feb. 2 incident when an unauthorized booth was set up during lunch period at Wylie East High School as part of a World Hijab Day event.

The majority of those who spoke last week traveled from outside the Wylie ISD community.

“There was a breakdown in process that was recognized and addressed,” Wylie resident Jennifer Cleveland said. “In any large organization serving thousands of students, mistakes will happen. What matters is accountability, and you all have demonstrated that.”

Others remained critical of the district’s handling of the situation, calling for stronger accountability.
Trustees heard additional comments before continuing with the regular agenda which began with recognitions.
