The Murphy City Council opened its Tuesday, March 17, meeting by recognizing Women’s History Month with a proclamation issued by Mayor Scott Bradley and delivered jointly by three female members of the council.
Standing together at the podium, Mayor pro tem Elizabeth Abraham, Councilmember Laura Deel and Deputy Mayor pro tem Jené Butler each read portions of the proclamation, which highlighted the historical and ongoing contributions of American women in economic, cultural and social spheres, as well as their leadership in major social movements and military service.
The mayor’s proclamation noted that women’s roles have often been “overlooked and undervalued” in the study of American history and formally declared March 2026 as Women’s History Month in Murphy.
