The city of Murphy will conduct a general election Saturday, May 2, for mayor, City Council Place 3 and City Council Place 5.
The incumbents are Mayor Scott Bradley, Councilmember Andrew Chase in Place 3 and Place 5 Councilmember Laura Deel.
The filing period for the election opened Jan. 14 and will close at 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13.
As of Monday, Feb. 2, all three incumbents had filed for re-election.
In announcing his candidacy, the mayor posted online that he was ready to retire after serving the city for 19 years, but his chosen successor was not ready to “step into the fray” Bradley expected would consume the city for the next one to two years.
“The city needs to focus on making sure we maintain our vision, our community and our contract with the residents,” Bradley said.
“That means not always being the ‘nice guy.’”
Murphy city officeholders are elected at-large to three-year terms.
Candidates must be a registered voter, 21 at the time of the election and have resided in the city for at least 12 months prior to Election Day.
Candidate Application Packets are available through the City Secretary, [email protected] or 972-468-4011.
Friday, April 2, is the last day to register to vote. Early voting will be held from Monday, April 20, to Tuesday, April 28.
