The sunshine was warm, but the wind had a mind of its own as families began setting up their tents in Murphy Central Park for the city’s second community campout. The field east of the large pond had spaces for 50 families and the event sold out quickly.
The temperature was a balmy 80 degrees as check-ins began at 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14, and the mercury got no lower than 60 overnight, a stark contrast to last year’s 51-degree overnight low.
“It’s like camping in your own back yard,“ said Brandon Kresky. He set up early and was waiting for his daughters, ages 4 and 7, to arrive.
“They have some friends coming out here too, so it’s gonna be a fun time,” he said.
Activities included roasting s’mores, ax throwing, rock climbing and a zipline.
