Plano East earned its first win of the season Friday night against McKinney Boyd, 27-22, at Tom Kimbrough stadium.

The win snapped an eight-game losing streak dating back to last season.

“We all felt a sigh of relief,” head coach Tony Benedetto said after the game.

The Panthers appeared to be in control.

Senior Travis Agee scored on a four-yard touchdown run with 4:04 left in the third quarter to give Plano East a 27-8 lead.

McKinney Boyd answered with a touchdown pass and an interception return for a score to rally within 27-22.

The Broncos were later in Panthers’ territory driving for the potential go-ahead score but senior Abdullhi Mahdi thwarted McKinney Boyd’s momentum after he posted an interception with less than three minutes remaining.

Agee iced the game with runs of 14 and two yards on Plano East’s final drive.

Plano East’s running game was the story of this game.

The Panthers finished with 210 rushing yards to just 17 for the Broncos.

Agee had a team-high 119 yards and two touchdowns. Treyce Seldon added 90 yards on 18 carries with a score.

Quarterback MJ Haggan completed 14-of-21 passes for 156 yards.

Plano East improved to 1-5 overall and 1-3 in District 6-6A.

The win felt good and was needed for the team, Benedetto said.

Coach Benedetto says he hopes to build off the win and stack some more wins during the second half of the season.
