The Murphy City Council will decide next month how much to raise water and wastewater rates after hearing wholesale costs are climbing at double-digit percentages.
Consultant Chris Ekrut, chief financial officer of NewGen Strategies & Solutions, said at council’s Tuesday, Aug. 19, meeting that wholesale water costs from the North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) are projected to increase 7.3% this year, from $6.56 million to more than $7 million.
NTMWD wastewater treatment costs are rising even more sharply, from $3.2 million to $3.7 million, an increase of more than 14%, he said.
