The Murphy Police Department is starting an education and enforcement effort to prevent accidents where the PSA parking lot exits to N. Murphy Road.
Police Chief Jeff Gibson said southbound motorists sometimes attempt to turn left into the exit drive or motorists leaving the parking lot may attempt to turn left to go southbound.
“We have been very lucky,” Gibson told the Murphy City Council’s regular meeting Tuesday, May 6.
“I want to be very transparent and very frank with you [and] how we have not had a serious accident here is beyond me,” the chief said. “We wish to take a proactive approach and stop it before it happens.”
Gibson said the department will put “No Left Turn” signs on southbound Murphy Road and at the parking lot exit.
The education component would begin with flyers at PSA, marquees and social media notices, followed by enforcement in which officers would at first just issue warnings.
