The city of Murphy received a sales tax allocation check this month from Texas State Comptroller Glenn Hegar for $363,744.
Allocations to Texas cities were distributed by the comptroller this month for taxes collected on retail sales made in January by businesses that report tax monthly.
In March 2024, the check to Murphy was $41,629, following a distribution of $825,488 in February of last year.
“There was an error by the state comptroller in February 2024, which was corrected in March 2024, resulting in a lower payment to the city last March,” Assistant City Manager Jared Mayfield said.
