One of the vocal leaders of Plano East football team’s defense has found a home to play in college.

Senior defensive back Andrew Earls announced on his personal X (formerly Twitter) account on Sunday that he will play for the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.

Earls, a three-year varsity player, has been a playmaker for the Panthers. As a senior, he finished with four interceptions, nine passes defended, 62 tackles and one caused fumble. Early recorded two of those interceptions in a 21-14 come-from-behind win over Prosper Rock Hill to keep the team’s playoff hopes alive.

Although Plano East came up just short of making the postseason for a second consecutive season, the Panthers went 6-4 overall for their second straight season with a winning record and went 4-4 in District 6-6A.
