An election will be held this spring to select four of the seven members of the Plano Independent School District Board of Trustees. Wednesday, Jan. 15, is the first day for candidates to file and Friday, Feb. 14, is the last day to file.
The Saturday, May 3, election will choose board members for Places 1, 2, 3 and 6.
The candidate with the most votes in each place will be elected to a four-year term representing the district at large.
Lauren Tyra, the board’s vice president, is the Place 1 incumbent; Angela Powell holds Place 2, Board President Nancy Humphrey is the Place 3 member and Jeri Chambers holds Place 6.
According to the district’s website, the Board of Trustees “makes all final decisions regarding district policies, personnel, textbooks, expenditures, and growth management. The board adopts a budget necessary to maintain and operate the schools; levies taxes to support the budget; and submits bond issues to the citizens of the district to finance construction projects.”
The school board also employs and evaluates the district superintendent and selects and supervises the internal auditor.
