FRISCO – The Plano East boys basketball team is starting to get used to participating in ring ceremonies.
On Saturday afternoon, Plano East participated in another ring ceremony.
Although it wasn’t for winning the Class 6A state tournament earlier this year, it was at one of the more prestigious preseason tournaments in the Dallas area. The Panthers were presented with individual rings after beating Round Rock-Stony Point 72-65 from Frisco Panther Creek High School to win the blue bracket of the Dallas Mavs Fall Classic.
Plano East and Stony Point are no strangers to each other. The Panthers topped the Tigers in the first-place game of last year’s Dallas Mavs Fall Classic and, just a few months later, went on to defeat Stony Point in the Class 6A state tournament championship game at the Alamodome in San Antonio to complete a perfect 40-0 season.
Senior DJ Hall was named tournament MVP of the Mavs Fall Classic. He poured in 22 pints in the win over Stony Point. Junior Jayden Parker and freshman Alex Brewington were named to the all-tournament team.
Plano East improved to 7-1 on the season after outlasting Rowlett 75-70 from Rowlett on Tuesday evening.
The Panthers had five players score in double figures. Scoring was spread between Brewington, Hall, Ayan Patel, Moustafa Abualneel and Izan Qazi.
