Plano East’s playoff chances took a big hit Friday evening in a 24-23 loss to McKinney from Tom Kimbrough Stadium.
McKinney senior wide receiver Khristian Mackintrush caught an eight-yard touchdown with 2:20 left in the fourth quarter to give the Lions their first lead of the game.
Plano East nearly answered. Senior quarterback Jackson Hays drove the Panthers into Lions territory and set up senior Blake Letourneau with a chance to win the game, but his 43-yard attempt as time expired came up just short.
The Panthers led 23-14 at halftime but didn’t score in the second half.
Junior running back Travis Agee had a touchdown pass reception of 12 yards and also ran in for a four-yard touchdown.
Senior quarterback Jackson Hays threw a 53-yard touchdown pass to junior Jackson Howard with 4:04 to go in the second quarter.
The loss didn’t eliminate Plano East (6-4, 4-3) from the playoffs, thanks to a Prosper Rock Hill win over Plano. However, the Panthers will need to defeat Allen next Thursday to attempt to make it back into the postseason for the second consecutive season.
