The Murphy City Council has adopted next year’s budget, cut the property tax rate and raised fees for residential and commercial water service.
Councilmembers also requested more information about a barbecue festival proposed for next spring and refused to change the name of the annual Christmas in the Park event scheduled for December.
Approval of the budget and tax rate came swiftly after no one appeared to speak at brief public hearings convened at council’s regular meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 3.
The property tax will drop about a nickel to 36 cents per $100 valuation.
Also on the agenda, council approved a construction plat for 27 residential lots on 9 acres presently occupied by the Southfork Veterinary Clinic on the northwest corner of Betsy Lane and North Murphy Road.
