The Murphy City Council has approved a property tax rate of just over 36 cents per $100 valuation for Fiscal Year 2025 and has scheduled a public hearing for Tuesday, Sept. 3, before formally adopting the tax rate and new city budget.
Also at the Tuesday, Aug. 20, regular meeting, councilmembers endorsed a restructuring of utility rate billing tiers, with an average customer to pay $6.46 more for water and sewer, effective Oct. 1.
In other council business, the Islamic Association of Murphy won approval of a setback variance for the construction of the IAM Masjid [mosque] near the northeast corner of North Murphy Road and McMillen Road.
