The Islamic Association of Murphy (IAM) has won approval of an amended site plan, amended landscape plan and construction plat for the IAM Masjid (Arabic for mosque) to be located at the intersection of North Murphy Road and McMillen Road.
However, IAM President Syed Osman Hussain said he would appeal the decision made at the Tuesday, April 2, meeting because it included a charge of $392,243 for the repair of 518 feet of McMillen Road.
“It is unfair of the city to ask a nonprofit organization to bear a portion of the construction cost of the street including other improvements,” he said. “We depend solely on the donations of our community and have no source of income.”
