The Murphy City Council has adopted new restrictions on short-term home rentals. The rules apply to both whole-house rentals for less than 30 days as well as room rentals. The city will also levy a hotel occupancy tax on the rentals.
In other business, council voted to allow Walmart to build a convenience store and gas station in front of its supercenter on FM 544. It will be situated between Sonic and Wendy’s.
Before the Feb. 20 council meeting, Police Chief Jeff Gibson was sworn in by City Secretary Kandi Jackson. The ceremony in the City Hall lobby was attended by Gibson’s family and members of the Murphy Police Department.
