The new year brings new laws to Texas as 30 bills took effect Jan. 1. Most were passed during the regular legislative session but some were approved during special sessions called by the governor.
Nineteen of the laws concern taxes, including a whopping property tax cut approved by voters in November as an amendment to the Texas Constitution. It was already included in tax bills sent in October.
