Water, sewer rates could go up

by | Aug 2, 2023 | Latest

Because of projected wholesale price increases by the North Texas Municipal Water District, Murphy customers will probably see higher water and sewer rates next year. Chris Ekrut, director of environmental practice at NewGen Strategies & Solutions, advised city council they could anticipate raising water rates by 8.35% and sewer rates by 4.04% in 2024. Ekrut told the Monday, Aug. 1, meeting a customer using 11,400 gallons a month could pay $10.72 more per month — $7.81 more for water and $2.84 more for sewer service. The council won’t take action on an increase until later this year.
In other business, councilmembers gave final zoning approval for 27 custom homes in a development to be called Southfork Estates on the northwest corner of Betsy Lane and North Murphy Road. The exterior of the new homes could be up to 50% stucco and 50% brick or stone.
Council also called a Tuesday, Nov. 7, special election for the Place 2 seat of Jennifer Berthiaume, whose family is moving from Murphy. The deadline to file as a candidate is 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 25.
