The University of Iowa has a history of sending defensive linemen to the NFL and now adds a Plano East star to its roster.
Chima Chineke, Plano East’s starting defensive end, committed to be a Hawkeye this morning.
A three-star recruit rated by 247sports, Chineke had 31 tackles and 6.5 sacks last season in his junior year. He picked Iowa over offers from other Division I schools such as Vanderbilt, Oklahoma State, Kansas and Texas Tech. Chineke was rated as the 57th-best player in the D-FW Metroplex by The Dallas Morning News.
The Hawkeyes have several players who have gone on to play in the NFL, particularly on the defensive line. The most recent was 2023 first-round pick Lukas Van Ness, who was selected 13th overall by the Green Bay Packers.
