More than 800 runners from as far as California took part in the 2023 Murphy Half Marathon, 10K & 5K runs.
The event, begun in 2010 as part of Maize Days, was held Saturday, June 24, in perfect weather.
It benefitted the nonprofit Kyle Kucauskas Educational Foundation providing scholarship assistance to students pursuing careers in the fields of law enforcement and/or criminal justice.
Aaron ‘Kyle’ Kucauskas was a Murphy Police Department sergeant who died in 2013.
First place in the half marathon, with an unofficial chip time of 1:28.50, was Walter Andrade, 30, from The Colony. Second was Nathan Moore, 16, Wylie, at 1:29:07. Third was Austin Jackson, 16, Murphy, also 1:29:07.
The first-place finisher in the 10K was Di’Jon Smith, 27, of Katy, with an unofficial chip time of 32:06. Judah Alexander-Macias, 17, Frisco, was second with a time of 36:39. Ali Toomes, 29, McKinney, was third at 37:11.
Results in the 5K were Logan Nasky, 19, Irving, first with an unofficial chip time of 16:41. Kyle Owens, 24, Richardson, was second at 17:02. Emmanuel Amadi, 31, Euless, was third at 17:16.
There were 836 participants: 298 in the half marathon, 223 in the 10K and 315 in the 5K.
