Some Murphy residents will have to update the automatic payment of their water bills to match new billing and payment dates. The Murphy City Council agreed at the regular meeting Tuesday, June 6, to consolidate three separate 30-day billing cycles for the city’s water utility customers. The change will affect 3,480 customers in the second and third zone cycles.
Berna Fitzpatrick-Walker, interim finance director, said the change could be implemented because of updated smart meters that reduce the need for manual meter-reading. The upgraded Automated Meter Reading (AMI) system allows the city to return to one zone – or payment date — by October.
