Laura Deel, who described herself as a “stay-at-home mom,” unseated Place 5 Murphy City Councilmember Sarah Fincanon, 655-466 or 58.43% to 41.57% of 1,121 votes, according to Collin County’s final, unofficial results of the Saturday, May 6, general election.
“Thank you to everyone who took the time to vote in this election,” Deel said. “I am so excited for the opportunity to serve on Murphy’s City Council! Creating a social media communication plan for council and soliciting input on what changes/additions residents most want are top of my mind as I get started.”
Place 3 Councilman Andrew Chase retained his seat with 562 votes, 52.13% of 1,078 votes cast, compared with 516 votes, 47.87% for challenger W. Scott Smith.
Mayor Scott Bradley was not opposed and was re-elected with 1,048 votes cast.
Election results are not official until the votes are canvassed.
