The Murphy Police Department has charged a 28-year-old Dallas man with capital murder in last month’s fatal shooting of a couple at their home.
Police Chief Chris Chandler said Cristian Andres Bocanegra had accompanied Vincent Cantu to the home of Cantu’s parents in the Rolling Ridge subdivision on the evening of Monday, April 10.
Chandler said Cantu, 35, fatally shot his father, Federico (Fred) Cantu, 63, and his stepmother, Tracy Kay Cantu, 57, before turning the gun on himself.
Vincent Cantu was taken to Medical City Plano, where he was pronounced dead.
The police chief said Bocanegra was arrested Friday, May 5, “after countless hours of investigation by our criminal investigation division, assistance from the Wylie, Garland, Mesquite and Dallas Police Departments, and legal direction from the Collin County District Attorney’s Office.”
He was booked into the Collin County Jail in McKinney on $1 million bond.
