The Murphy City Council took no action at its regular meeting Tuesday, Jan. 3, on a proposal to re-zone the last remaining agricultural tract in the city to Planned Development. The nine acres on the northwest corner of Betsy Lane and North Murphy Road is the current location of the Southfork Animal Clinic. A developer had proposed a housing community to be called Southfork Estates that would comprise 39 residential lots. The application died for lack of a motion after a lengthy public hearing.
In other business, the council received a report on sidewalk construction including the request by Kansas City Southern to construct new sidewalks and reconstruct the railroad crossing along the west side of Murphy Road. That project, which would require the closing of FM 544 for at least three days, will be discussed at the council’s work session on Tuesday, Jan. 17.
