In a short meeting lasting only 20 minutes, council passed two ordinances during the Tuesday, July 5, regular council meeting.
The first ordinance amended the fiscal year 2022 police seizure fund budget by $4,700 for an independent audit and inventory of the property room, where evidence in criminal cases is stored, and $1,500 to re-key the property room.
Finance Director Karen Montgomery said the department has sufficient funds from property formerly seized and subsequently awarded to the city to cover the costs.
Montgomery said the audit is one of Police Chief Chris Chandler’s highest priorities and recommends the Texas Association of Property and Evidence Inventory Technicians be hired to conduct the audit.
Council also passed an ordinance authorizing the issuance of about $2.4 million, plus issue costs, for tax notes to finance the replacement of water meters in the city.
