Residents oppose construction plat

by | May 18, 2022 | Latest

Several Murphy residents raised concerns about a construction plat during the Tuesday, May 17, regular city council meeting.

The plat is for 37 residential lots located on the southwest corner of FM 544 and South Maxwell Creek Road.

According to City Planner Laura Evans, the plat meets all standards found in the Murphy codes and ordinances.

Most speakers didn’t oppose the development but cited increased traffic during construction potentially worsening road conditions as their main concern.

Council cannot prohibit construction traffic and ultimately approved the plat.

In other business, council passed two ordinances amending the Municipal Development District fund budget for $40,300. Of the amount, $15,300 will be used for costs related to the rebrand of the Murphy shopping district recently named The Corridor at Murphy and $25,000 for an incentive payment.

The second ordinance amended the MDD fund budget by $156,500 for construction of a hooded left lane on North Murphy road and $50,000 for construction of sidewalks at two locations, totaling $206,500.
