It was a nearly flawless performance from the Plano East track team at state.
Battling in four competitions, the Panthers earned four medals, including two gold for Tiriah Kelley.
Reaching the state championship for the second straight season, Kelley finished first overall in the girls 100 (11.4) and 200 (23.06). Her 200-meter dash was a personal record while running into a headwind.
Kelley, along with Kaylee Moody, Janiya Richardson and Kaley Qualls, also finished second in the 4×100-meter relay (45.38), just .05 seconds away from beating Fort Bend Bush for the gold. They set a new school record with the result, as the Lady Panthers finished third overall at state with 36 points.
Aiden Hayes was the lone Plano East competitor for the boys team and finished second overall in the high jump (6-8). Clearing the jump on his first attempt, he won by a tiebreaker for Plano East’s second silver medal of the day.
