A residential assisted living is one step closer to expanding its care after receiving approval at the Jan. 24 Planning and Zoning Commission meeting.
The commission held several public hearings during the meeting; the first was for a specific use permit (SUP) to allow the Heritage House, a residential care facility, to have more than six residents at its facility located at 612 Maize Drive.
City Planner Reagan Rothenberger said assisted living residences are allowed within all residential developments in the city as long as there are not more than six residents in the home, adding that the SUP is to increase the number of residents from six to eight.
Rothenberger said if the commission approves the SUP, that it be done on the condition that eight is the maximum number of residents allowed in the home. He also said he received three letters from residents in opposition to the change.
