Tony Benedetto was approved as the new head football coach and athletic coordinator at Plano East.
Benedetto previously spent three years in the same position at Woodrow Wilson High School, where he went 18-13 with back-to-back playoff appearances. He was also named the Dallas ISD Athletic Coordinator of the year in 2020-21.
Before his time with the Wildcats, Benedetto worked at Spruce High School as the offensive coordinator and assistant head coach. He worked as a special teams coordinator and tight ends coach at Mesquite Poteet.
Benedetto also played collegiately at NCAA Division II University of Sioux Falls, winning two national championships.
The hiring comes a little over a month after Plano East head coach Joey McCullough announced his retirement after seven seasons at the helm. McCullough, a Panther alum, was 28-54 during his tenure as coach. The Panthers went 2-8 in the 2021 season.
