Ismail Mahdi, defense paces Plano East to first victory in 721 days

by | Sep 10, 2021 | Latest, Sports

Before the season, many of the Plano East seniors said they just wanted to get some wins under their belt.
One of those seniors was Ismail Mahdi, who sat out his sophomore year with an injury and didn’t get a win last season. With an up-and-coming roster, the Panthers accomplished their goal, beating the Wylie Pirates 34-17 on Sept. 10.
After Wylie attempted a surprise onside kick to start the game, Mahdi scored on a 42-yard touchdown run.
Coming out of the second half, the Panthers surprised the Pirates with their own onside kick, which was recovered by Plano East. Mahdi scored 36-yards out on the next play.

Plano East’s final score of the game occurred on a short touchdown pass from quarterback Drew DeVillier to Brian Dyer. DeVillier finished the game 8 for 13 with a touchdown and an interception.

After a bye week next week, Plano East will take travel to Hebron on Sept. 24.
