The Plano East baseball team continued its strong start in the 2021 season by winning five more games at the Collin County Invitational.
Competing against some of the top teams in the county, Plano East opened the week by beating Denton Ryan on March 4 at Allen High School by a score of 8-2. Once again led by the strong pitching staff, Plano East’s Apollo Cassimatis, coming off of a no-hitter last week, pitched another fantastic game to get the Panthers the victory.
Following the opening victory, Plano East fell in their second game of the evening, losing 2-1 to the Allen Eagles. They wouldn’t be stopped though, as Plano East came back the next day and was able to win both games in the doubleheader, beating Jesuit 2-0 and Midlothian Heritage 9-2.
Plano East capped off the tournament on Saturday by splitting the two games, losing 7-3 to Argyle before beating Prosper 4-0. Colton Shaw led the way in the win over Prosper, who is one of the top teams in the area, by delivering the shutout and getting multiple clutch hits for the Panthers.
After getting four wins over the weekend, Plano East had the opportunity of a lifetime to play on the new Globe Life Field in Arlington. They took on Lovejoy last Monday and weren’t phased by the bright lights in winning the game 5-1 over the Leopards.
