With the bi-district championship on the line, the Lady Panthers showed up.
The Plano East girls basketball team had no trouble beating Prosper Thursday, as they took care of business winning 67-29.
It was the defensive side of the ball that led Plano East to victory with the team holding Prosper to nine made field goals throughout the game. They opened the game with a 10-2 advantage in the first quarter and began to pile it on at the end of the first half, going into the break up 24-11. The result was never in doubt, but the Lady Panthers scored 26 points in the fourth quarter to ice the game and move on to the next round.
Leading the way for Plano East on offense was Taylor Haggan, who finished the game with a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds. Kayla Cooper also scored in double figures, totaling 14 points on four three-point field goals.
The victory moves Plano East on to the area championship, where they’ll take on Irving MacArthur in the next round of the postseason. MacArthur comes into the game with a 13-3 record and finishing second in district play. They’ll look to halt Plano East’s 16-game winning streak on the season.
The two teams will tip-off Monday at Hillcrest High School at 6:30 p.m.
