The Plano East Lady Panthers basketball team, ranked No. 15 by the Texas Girls Coaches Association, clinched an undefeated record in District 6-6A with two wins last week.
After overcoming the adversity of a COVID-19 filled season throughout the year, Plano East celebrated its first girls basketball district championship in 13 years. Their last title came in 2008. The Lady Panthers clinched the district title last week but were able to get wins in each of their two games to finish the season 14-0 in district play and 16-3 overall.
Plano East first knocked off Coppell on Feb. 2 by a final score of 57-34. The defense got it done once again for Plano East, with Coppell being held to single digits in each of the first three quarters of action.
The Cowgirls found themselves down 34-16 at the halftime break to the Lady Panthers, who outpaced Coppell all evening. Plano East’s leading scorers were Tiana Amos, who scored 16 points, and Donavia Hall, who scored 10. Coppell fell to 5-9 in district play with the loss and was eliminated from playoff contention.
