A group of 15 Murphy youth learned about law enforcement work through lectures and realistic scenarios as participants in the 13th annual Murphy Youth Police Academy.
The academy was held under the watchful eyes of Officer Fred Mancias and Detective Brad Taylor at various municipal locations July 22-26.
“It’s a good program,” Mancias, who is School Resource Officer at McMillen High School, said. “I like it and the kids like it.”
He reported that once the participants get a taste of police work at the academy, they often come back a second time, or graduate to Police Explorer Post 2005 sponsored by Murphy Police Department.
