Allowing time to recalculate funding formulas changed by the Texas Legislature in late May, Plano Independent School District trustees passed a new budget last week that they expect to amend with correct figures.
The school board met Tuesday, June 25 to approve a budget before the start of the 2019-20 fiscal year that begins July 1.
Texas legislators this year tasked themselves with the chores of revamping the way public education is financed and limiting the growth of property taxes. The legislature convened in January, but it was late May before final votes were taken school finance and property taxes. That left a short time for school districts to finalize budget work.
Changes to how schools are financed included reducing school property tax rates, which subtracts from the amount of money raised by individual districts, and increasing the amount of school funding provided by the state.
