One local student was accepted into a group that only 30 high schoolers from all over the world are invited to join.
Savannah Pinner, 15, just completed her sophomore year at Wylie High School. A devotee of theoretical math, she decided to apply for the World Science Scholar program.
These scholars will receive coursework for up to 16 different online classes taught by scientists and mathematicians. They also have a chance to attend the World Science Festival in New York City to connect with their cohort in person, although Savannah will not be able to attend.
“It sounds so cliché but it’s a dream come true,” she said. “This is the best thing that’s ever happened to me. It’s the coolest thing. When I found out, I was shouting it from the rooftop and running around the school. It’s so amazing that I can be a part of something as huge as this.”
