With a design in hand and groundbreaking ceremonies concluded, Murphy Historical Society concentrates this year on raising funds to build the Murphy Veterans Tribute at Central Park.
The tribute, honoring all military veterans, features a sunken bowl from which a sculpture of metal beams reaches skyward. The bowl and sculpture is surrounded by a walkway and accessible by a ramp or stairs, and a second sculpture of a soldier’s rifle, boots and berets stands nearby.
Halff and Associates landscape architects designed the tribute. Fundraising efforts last year paid for the design work.
Targeted as the new year opens is raising $60,000 to pay for a survey and engineering services.
