Council denies childcare center location

by | Sep 13, 2018 | Latest

Noting that construction of a pre-school in the Medical Center Addition, 615 W. FM 544, would not be the best use of commercial space, Murphy City Council denied a zoning request that would have allowed construction of the facility.

The council took its action at a Tuesday, Sept. 4 meeting. Other business before the council included hearing a proposal for aesthetic improvements at Murphy Marketplace, considering a proposal to subdivide property on Bunny Run, seeking bids for Waters Edge Park improvements and awarding a bid for culvert work at Waters Edge Park.

For a second time, the council heard a request to change zoning in Medical Center Addition to allow construction of a childcare facility and pre-school. The city Zoning Commission already had denied the request.

As originally proposed, several construction features were not allowed in the area, but the applicant offered to make changes to meet city requirements. For example, a design calling for asphalt shingles was changed to a clay tile roof such as is on nearby buildings.
