Murphy City Council heard an update on Maize Days planning and requests for a zoning change and signage ordinance variation at its regular session last week.
The council met Tuesday, Aug. 21, at City Hall with just four members in attendance, Mayor pro tem Jennifer Berthiaume, Deputy Mayor pro tem Sarah Fincannon and councilmembers Chris George and Don Reilly.
Special Events Coordinator Kayla McFarland reported that plans are being firmed up for the 10th annual Maize Days celebration set for Sept. 29 at Murphy Central Park.
The event includes musical entertainment, petting zoo, children’s activities area, car show, pet area, Punkin’ Chunkin’ fundraiser for the chamber of commerce scholarship foundation, canned food drive, food vendors, craft and business vendors, fireworks show and bicycle valet parking for those who ride bicycles to the celebration.
