Historical societies join forces for cotton exhibit
Sachse, Murphy and Wylie Historical Societies are making history themselves by producing a project together.
For the past seven months, the groups have been working to put on a joint exhibit. It will highlight the interconnected history of the three cities, particularly emphasizing cotton.
The event will occur at Sachse Historical Society Museum Saturday, Sept. 22.
“We’re hoping 150 kindergarten-fifth grade students come,” said Sachse resident Donna Jenkins, president of Murphy Historical Society. “We’ll set up activities for them to learn about cotton. They’ll have a piece of cotton from the field and take it apart, removing the bolls and seeds by hand like the Native Americans and pioneers did.”
