Students in sixth to 12th grades received hands-on lessons in police work last week when they participated in the Youth Citizen Police Academy taught by Murphy Police Department.
The academy ran July 23-27 with students receiving a combination of classroom instruction and scenario training. Heading up the program were School Resource Officers Kris Riebschlager and Fred Mancias, who were assisted by Murphy police officers and the Plano SWAT Team and Plano Bomb Squad.
“They do a good job and enjoy imparting their knowledge to the students,” Police Chief Arthur Cotten said.
Last week’s participants were the 12th class to go through the youth academy that is in its 10th year. Riebschlager helped with the inaugural class and took over the program in its second year.
