Drought-resistant and low maintenance plants were recommended to Murphy city staff as plans begin to replace landscaping in traffic medians on Betsy Lane, N. Murphy Road and McCreary Road.
The city council conducted a workshop on the landscaping projects, for which $2 million is allocated, at its regular meeting Tuesday, July 17.
Mayor Scott Bradley explained that the areas have previously been landscaped but parts of the landscaping have died or have been removed. Revisiting the areas, the council agrees, can correct some mistakes while making the medians more attractive.
Along with new landscaping, drip irrigation will be added to the medians.
