What’s in store

MURPHY – Fans got a first hand look at what to expect in the 2018 football season during the yearly Spring Showcase.

The seventh and eighth grade teams from Bowman, Otto, Murphy and Armsrtong Middle School started things off at Kimbrough Stadium.

The ninth and 10th graders followed them from McMillen and Williams High School.

Plano East varsity head coach Joey McCullough said the spring game is a celebration.

“It’s layers of our Eastside community,” he said. “For our middle school students, it ought to be a dream to play on Friday night for Plano East.”

Before the start of the varsity and junior varsity portion of the scrimmage, former Panther football coach John Bandy was inducted into the school’s Hall of Honor.

Bandy was the defensive coordinator at Plano East from 1984 to 1993. Other coaching stops included Lake Highlands, Richardson and Plano West.

He was a coach for 36 years and is currently the stadium manager at Kimbrough.

“He made a difference in so many kids and coaches lives, especially mine. He was a great coach and an even better man,” McCullough said.
